Touch is one of the most powerful tools we have as teachers, and one of the easiest to use carelessly. A well-placed tactile cue gives the client sensory feedback they can’t get from verbal instruction alone, sharpening their proprioceptive awareness of where a body part is and how it’s moving. But wherever you make contact, the client’s attention goes. A tactile cue only works if it directs focus exactly where you intend, and that depends on more than hand placement. Area of contact, pressure, direction, timing, and how you apply and release the cue all shape what the client feels and what they learn from it. Hands in the “right” place aren’t enough if the rest of the cue isn’t deliberate.
This workshop is for instructors who already use tactile cueing and want to refine it. We’ll break down the key variables of an effective cue, look at common ways cues get lost or misread, and practise strategies for making each cue clear, specific, and purposeful. You’ll apply these principles across a range of mat and equipment exercises, so you leave able to make conscious, deliberate tactile decisions rather than habitual ones.
Suitable for qualified Pilates instructors and instructors in training with a working knowledge of the repertoire.
